ARTHUR KNEBEL 1925-2013
Arthur Knebel was an artist who once showed at the Denver Art Museum. Before 1986, when Arthur became a
full-time painter, Arthur was a professional Violist. He played the viola, a slightly larger violin, from 1943 –
1985. He was a Violist with Cincinnati Symphony, St Louis Symphony, North Carolina Symphony, Houston
Symphony, and Denver Symphony orchestras.
Arthur was a very sensitive painter with mid-century cultural roots. Color and Design were his major interests.
His strong interest in photography informed his image production. His effort was to achieve a balance between
realism and a canvas surface that danced with light and color. Often his images became lost in his constant
reworking of a canvas to make just the right color intensities.
